Red fox pattern added at Stitching Cards

A prick and stitch pattern featuring a red fox has been added to the Stitching Cards pattern collection. The fox has a large bushy tail and looks splendid when stitched in antique copper and antique silver metallic thread.

Red fox pattern

The fox pattern was created in response to a request from Nancy who wanted to make the card for a rehabber where she volunteers.

The red fox has the widest range of any terrestrial carnivore, being native to Canada, Alaska, almost all of the adjacent United States, Europe, North Africa and almost all of Asia, including Japan. In the United Kingdom it is referred to simply as “the fox” because they have no other wild animals in the canid family (for example wolves, coyotes, and jackals). It was introduced into Australia in the 19th century.

The Red Fox is either loved or hated by humans. This has been most visible in the United Kingdom where fox hunting with dogs was a traditional sport until this was made illegal a few years ago. The fox has featured in many folk tales such as Reynard the fox, usually as a wily villain, though sometimes also as the underdog who triumphs over human attempts to control or destroy it.
