Meerkat Christmas pattern added at Stitching Cards

A Meerkat Christmas pattern has been added to the Stitching Cards collection.

The design features mom, dad and child meerkats looking at a pile of presents with the greeting “Meerkat Christmas”.

Also added is a design featuring a meerkat standing on a rock in a typical lookout pose. It makes a great birthday card for animal lovers. It can also be used for congratulations, thank you and other messages.

The pattern size is 152 mm x 104 mm (6 x 4½ inches).

Meerkats are members of the mongoose family and are about the size of a squirrel. They live in groups as large as 40 and they all participate in gathering food, keeping a look out for predators, and taking care of the babies. They live in the deserts and grasslands of the southern tip of Africa. These extremely social animals live together in burrows, which they dig with their long, sharp claws. Living underground keeps mob members safe from predators and out of the harsh African heat.

A well known film character based on the meerkat is Timon in Disney’s The Lion King. Timon always has a fast line. But behind the patter is a loyal little guy who’d give his last wisecrack to help a friend. In the UK a meerkat character called Aleksandr Orlov features in a TV advertisement for a comparison website. He is portrayed as being of Russian aristocratic stock with an amusing accent.
